I began my journey in the barbering industry in 2017, attending barber school in Schaumburg, Illinois, where I discovered my passion for the craft. Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of honing my skills in various barbershops throughout the area. A significant part of my career was spent working alongside my close friend and now business partner, Michael Beardsley, at two of his Beardsley Barbershop locations.
In 2022, Michael and I embarked on a new venture together, founding Brook and Beard Barbershop in McHenry. This endeavor represents our shared vision for creating a space that celebrates tradition, craftsmanship, and community.
Reflecting on my time in barber school, I recognize it as one of the most pivotal experiences in shaping both my career and personal growth. What began as a journey to acquire technical skills evolved into a transformative period where I embraced the values of continuous learning, humility, healthy competition, and self-improvement.
Motivated by this impactful experience, Michael and I established Brook and Beard Academy with a mission to inspire and empower the next generation of barbers and entrepreneurs. The academy is more than a place to earn a license—it’s a community designed to foster growth, creativity, and the development of future leaders in the barbering industry.

Michael Beardsley, a licensed barber since 2012, is a seasoned professional with over 12 years of experience in the barbering industry. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in the development and success of more than six barbershops. Michael has trained barbers across various age groups and backgrounds, excelling in his ability to mentor, motivate, and provide constructive feedback.
Renowned for his unparalleled knowledge of barbering techniques, Michael's true value lies in his extensive business acumen. As a co-owner of Brook & Beard Academy, he takes a hands-on approach to nurturing the next generation of barbers, focusing on both technical skills and entrepreneurial growth.
Michael provides one-on-one guidance in critical areas such as pricing strategy, location selection, lease negotiation, and the development of standard operating procedures. His mentorship ensures that every student graduates from Brook & Beard Academy with the confidence and expertise to successfully launch and manage their own barbershop.
