Cutting Floor
This is the cutting floor, the heart of Brook and Beard Academy, where students will dedicate the majority of their training hours. Here, they will master the skills necessary to meet the demands of today’s discerning clients. Instruction covers a range of essential techniques, including clipper-over-comb, shear cutting, and the intricate art of shaving. Students will also gain invaluable hands-on experience, with daily opportunities to practice and refine their craft on real clients, ensuring they are well-prepared for success in the barbering profession.
Wash basins
Brook and Beard Academy features four fully equipped wash basins, designed to support a range of services, from hair coloring and dyeing treatments to regular shampooing and conditioning. These facilities provide clients with a professional, salon-quality experience while allowing students to hone their skills in a practical, hands-on environment.
Class Room
At Brook & Beard Academy, hands-on training is our top priority, but we also recognize the importance of classroom instruction. Each day, students engage in lessons led by experienced instructors and community leaders, covering a wide range of topics—from essential curriculum material like sanitation and the history of barbering to practical business skills such as tax preparation and shop management. Our classroom is equipped with computers, allowing students to access Milady’s online curriculum portal, and mannequins for practicing advanced techniques before applying them to real haircuts. This well-rounded approach ensures our students gain both the knowledge and confidence needed for a successful career in barbering.
Location
Brook and Beard Academy is perfectly situated at the bustling corner of 1st and Main Street in downtown West Dundee, just steps from the scenic riverwalk. Our prime location offers excellent street visibility and high foot traffic, making it easy for customers to stop in for a fresh cut while providing our students with invaluable hands-on experience. Ample parking is available on the south and east sides of the building for added convenience.

Tools & Equipment
Here at the academy, we believe that students should begin their barbering careers with high-quality tools that will serve them well for years to come. While many schools provide entry-level kits designed to be replaced quickly, we take a different approach. Our students receive access to the same professional-grade tools that experienced barbers and shop owners rely on daily. The total value of these tools is approximately $1,054—reflecting our commitment to quality and excellence.
While we do offer these tools for purchase, it's not a requirement. Every student barber station is fully equipped with all necessary tools at no cost to the student. The only limitation is that the tools must remain on-site and cannot be taken home. This ensures that every student has consistent access to top-tier equipment throughout their training.
