Licensing & Career

In order to become a barber you will need a license. Below is an outline for earning your license.

Enroll in Brook & Beard Academy! 

  • Open enrollment available year round!

  • ​Book a tour through our contact page!

  • ​10% of hours can be completed online

  • 10% can be by apprenticeship in a barbershop

Clock 1500 hours

Learn to cut hair

  • Tools provided by school.

  • No prior experience needed.

  • You will be able to cut real clients hair on your first day!

Pay Tuition

  • In house financing available. (Monthly payments between $300 - $500)

  • $5,000 discount if tuition is paid in full within 30 days of enrollment.

  • 100 questions

  • Study guides provided by the school

  • Can be taken 3 times

  • Need a 80% or higher

Receive Diploma!

CTS is a third party testing service, responsible for all testing for Illinois licensing.

Schedule Exam

There are many testing locations around the Chicago land area, with a wide selection of dates and times.

Pass State Exam

  • 60 questions

  • 80% or higher to pass

  • Tutoring provided by Brook & Beard Academy

  • 3 attempts before additional school hours required
